Project Summary:
Arts Insider is a 12 minute Arts based magazine show aimed at art and design students aged 16 to 24. The show is made up of several engaging segments that spotlight different aspects of the creative industry.

It begins with On Air, a fast-paced news segment that covers current events and trends in the arts world. This is followed by Frame by Frame, which highlights emerging young talent and the projects they are currently working on. The next segment, Role Review, brings a different crew member into the studio each episode to explain their role and responsibilities within a creative production. This theme is expanded in Department 101, which explores some of the lesser known, behind the scenes departments in the arts space. The show wraps up with Music Beat, a live feature that introduces a new band or artist looking to gain exposure and connect with a wider audience.

Development Challenges
I learned a great deal during this project. One of the most important lessons was how to inspire and lead a team.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, we had a smaller crew than expected, and many of the team members were not particularly driven at the start. My first step was to motivate them and get them excited about the project.
To do this, I researched various management techniques and systems. I decided to speak individually with each team member about what they believed their responsibilities were, both in and out of the studio. This helped them understand that they were each a vital part of a bigger machine that wouldn’t work without their contributions. This approach had a positive impact on attendance and morale, especially in the first few weeks. As we approached the live show date, I held another meeting to remind the team that we were all equal, working together toward the same goal. I also emphasized that I was always available for questions or support.
When it came to developing segment ideas for the show, we wanted to challenge ourselves.
My Production Assistant suggested we try incorporating a live music segment. Initially, I didn’t think it was possible due to the complexity of live music mixing in our studio. However, after discussing it with our technician, we found that it was indeed feasible. This was an exciting opportunity to learn how to write a multi-camera music script and how to cut and direct in time with the music. After much preparation, we went ahead with the segment, and it was a great success. The whole crew found the experience valuable, and I personally found it fascinating how the change in medium affected how the gallery and scripts were written and called.
Perhaps the most significant skill I developed during this project was overall show management.
As the director and writer, I had to delegate some of the segment responsibilities to others such as sourcing talent or developing content to be discussed. Delegating and checking in on progress was something I had not done before, but it became essential. I needed to seamlessly integrate these segments while staying on schedule developing one segment per week for five weeks, and then recording everything in the final week.
To stay organized, I used a group chat and created a weekly task list, assigning roles to each crew member. This allowed everyone to complete their tasks on their own time and report back to me. Using their input, I was able to build the show from the ground up.
