The Invite
SOLO Project
Writen, shot and edited by - Millie Longhurst
Actor- Sadie Davey
Project Summary:
Challenged to create, write, shoot, and edit a 4-minute silent micro-short, “The Invite” explores the themes of loneliness, expression, and self-esteem. The story follows Jasmine, a young girl who feels isolated and uninspired. One day, she discovers an invitation from a classmate to hang out. We follow her as she prepares step by step from skincare to choosing an outfit. This “getting ready” ritual highlights the sensory and emotional experience of girlhood, mirroring the delicate, intentional process of making art.
My Role and Responsibilities:
As the sole creator of this project, I was responsible for every stage of production:

Conceiving and developing the original concept
Booking and collecting equipment
Organizing and directing the actor Designing a layered, immersive soundscape
Editing and finalizing the film
Development Challenges
Equipment Limitations:
Due to the short, two-week turnaround, I had limited access to equipment. I was only able to book a small DSLR camera and the accompanying lenses. Unfortunately, I didn’t check the focal length beforehand and ended up with a 25mm lens, which wasn’t ideal for the wide shots I had initially envisioned. I had to adapt quickly, opting instead for medium-wides and close-ups to establish the setting. This experience taught me the importance of expanding my technical knowledge of camera equipment specifically understanding the creative uses and limitations of different lens sizes.
